Instructor Qualification Standards
ducational Experience: Each instructor must be at least 21 years of age and have:
1. A high school diploma or GED
2. One (1) year of vocational education tractor-trailer driver teaching or driver trainer experience, or two (2) years of practical trucking related experience that demonstrates instructional competency.B.
Driving Experience: 1. At least three (3) years of verifiable truck driving experience in the most recent ten (10)years, with a minimum of one (1) year as a long haul/OTR tractor-trailer driver.
(2) A safe driving record as determined by the SAGE Safety Department.C. Knowledge/Skill: Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of safe driving and all of the laws and regulations covering tractor-trailer interstate operations. Instructors must also be capable of demonstrating the SAGE curriculum subject matter for the subjects assigned.
Attitude: Instructors must show an attitude that is favorable toward performance. Instructor attitudes are assessed according to professionalism, respect, motivation, maturity, and safety.Instructors must show a willingness to conform their teachings to the specific SAGE curriculum.To do this they must become knowledgeable with designated curriculum for classroom and behind-the-wheel (BTW) units of instruction. They must also be prepared to review, discuss, and present the materials referenced in the Company’s curriculum guides for SAGE programs.
Regulatory Compliance: Instructors must meet the minimum qualifications for interstate tractor trailer drivers in accordance with all requirements of the applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including, but not limited to, meeting the physical and driver qualification standards of Part 391, as well as be able to pass as D.O.T. drug/alcohol screen.
